Charles Edwards is one of the first smiling faces many guests see when they touch down in Raleigh. As a Narsi Shuttle Driver and professional people-person, he transports visitors between the Raleigh-Durham Airport and our nearby Aloft.
Born and raised in Chapel Hill, Charles did not know much about the hospitality industry before joining the Narsi family nearly five years ago. After retiring from his former career at a fiberglass plant, he was searching for a post-retirement job opportunity when he came across our job openings.
Since his start with Narsi, he has come to learn a lot about the hotel world and the people in it, and we’re beyond lucky to have him on our team.
Always up-beat, his favorite part of the job is connecting with guests and fellow Narsi teammates. If you’ve spoken to Charles, you can tell a positive attitude carries over into every interaction with him.
When people want to chat on shuttle drives, “I just go with it,” he laughs, explaining that he could talk to people for hours. He beams about his two daughters, spending time with his girlfriend, and his close relationship with his brothers.
On the job, meeting visitors from the airline industry, travelers, and others from all walks of life is a highlight for him. Something we can all take from Charles: a good mood, a smile, and a great ear for listening goes a long way in any role.
With over four years in his role, Charles has enjoyed watching the Narsi team expand from within. He notes that when coworkers express interest in more responsibility, our team ensures that they have the opportunities to grow. Employees’ children are even welcomed to come work and learn over the summer.
Charles values this investment in our people and our family mentality, along with an open-door policy from management. Everyone should feel comfortable approaching those they work with, especially in an industry centered around hospitality.
He tells his daughters to “know your peeps” when it comes to understanding the different personalities around you. Every player brings something unique to the team, so it is important to let people be themselves. A true vision of our company values, he tries to get to know the family he works with everyday.
Take it from Charles: it’s all about how you treat people.
