Post-Retirement Career at Narsi

After a 28-years working at Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU), most people would consider retirement as their next step. Not Curtis Bolden. When he left RDU, he was ready for the next chapter in his post-retirement career.

A colleague who worked for Narsi recommended that Curtis apply for one of our job openings. He applied and was hired in 2017, and his career began. Curtis works as a shuttle driver for Aloft in Brier Creek and Homes2 Suites in RTP. Along with driving the shuttle, Curtis also assists with laundry, housekeeping, and maintenance.

“Narsi has done a lot for me and my family. Whatever they need me to help with, I do it,” he says.

Embodying Narsi Values

Originally from Louisiana, Curtis moved his wife and three kids to North Carolina 33 years ago to give them better opportunities and education. His drive to always improve himself and help others reach their potential made him a perfect fit for our Narsi family. For five years and counting, he has helped make our company a fantastic place for both associates and guests.

At Narsi, we adopt a people-first philosophy. Our leadership team treats each member of the team like a respected member of the family, something Curtis experiences daily.

“I’ve only been with Narsi for 5 years, and these people have done more for me than where I worked for 28 years. That speaks for itself,” reminisces Curtis. “I talk to the owners like I talk to anyone. They don’t think I’m beneath them because I pull a trashcan or mop a floor.”

Curtis extends that value of family to his coworkers. For example, he turned down several promotions over the years. As he was in his post-retirement career, he knew that his coworkers would benefit more than him from excelling in their careers.

“If you want to make this a career, this is the place for you and your family. It all comes back to family,” he says. “I didn’t need the promotion. Somebody else did. At this stage of my life, I just want to spend time with my wife and family. All I’m doing is holding off for someone else to get the job.”

Opportunities For Self-Starters in Post-Retirement Career and Early Career

Curtis, like other Narsi team members, advises future employees to be solution-oriented. Finding a solution, rather than complaining about the problem, will get you noticed. We like to reward good work, regardless of age, race, creed, or color.

As Curtis says, “I’m a black man. Can’t no black people come here and don’t have an equal chance of moving up.”

If you’re a hard worker who finds creative solutions to problems, demonstrates willingness to take on additional responsibilities, adapts to changes, and takes responsibility for your mistakes, you’ll do well.

“This company can promote you, and it has nothing to do with race or anything,” says Curtis. “I have never seen what I’ve seen here anywhere else, even at a government job. These are good people to work for.”
